miss aloha hula 2010

gosh, i hope you guys aren't sick of all my hula talk? :) i just want to share a little bit about the pride and joy that so many hawaiians have for my little, hometown, of waimanalo. waimanalo, is where howdy is from and also where hula halau o' kamuela perfects and masters the artistry of hula. dancing for his majesty in the pic above, is the 2010 miss aloha hula winner from hula halau o' kamuela, of waimanalo, hawaii. congratulations to mahealani mika hirao-solemn! she captured the title last night, with two breathtaking performances. watch her winning performances here.

tonight, is the kahiko(ancient style) halau(group) portion of the competition. the KANE(men) *smiley face* will be taking the stage along with the wahine(women). kahiko is the ancient style of hula and it's more serious, rigorous and disciplined than the auwana(modern style). you really need to know your stuff. the kane usually perform the kahiko half naked. YAY! lol. by the way, that is so NOT why i love to watch kahiko. :P watch it LIVE folks, right here.

and that is NOT aureana. hula halau o' kamuela does NOT do repeats lol

Howdy I love the hawaiian dance and singing tradition, and I've watched the Merrie Monarch Festival since you first told me about it in Fiji. I ask you to please tell me when it's about to happen every year, so can have the pleasure of watching it's live performances like I did this year.
